Waterproofing of Expansion joints

All RCC structures, concrete slabs, and pipelines expand and contract due to warming and cooling from seasonal variation, or due to other heat sources., they would crack under the stress induced. An expansion joint or movement joint is basically a gap designed to safely absorb the heat-induced expansion and contraction of construction materials, to absorb movements & vibrations, to hold parts together, or to allow movement due to ground settlement or earthquakes. They are commonly found between sections of buildings, bridges, sidewalks, railway tracks, piping systems, ships, and other structures.

Since these gaps are through & through in the structures, right from the basement to the terrace level, vertically as well as horizontally, they need to be waterproofed in a highly specialised system. This is necessary to stop the rain water entering the structure. There are various methods of treatment of these joints. At NTP we treat these type of joints by polysulphide sealant, covered with PVC membrane or metal plate as per the requirement.
